Remnants of us
Who’s there to stop us from bets we can’t win,
chasing the thrill as we’re bound to give in?
Eyes wide to the risk, hands warm from the flame,
we cradle what scorches and cling all the same.
You said we were timeless, souls intertwined,
I thought I’d be yours—some piece of me sighed.
Yet the fires we fed burned bright and then died,
a fever that faded, left cold by your side.
You loved me in pieces, all dressed in disguise,
sweet-talking forever with empty-eyed lies.
And I, like a fool, took a rose by its thorn,
believed in the beauty, ignored that I’d mourn.
You spun me dreams that dissolved into haze,
promised me solace yet left me ablaze.
Now I sift through ashes, each ember a ghost,
tracing the ruins of what I loved most.
